Peepee's, weewee's and penises

Overheard in the SM household:
"Mommy where's my penis"
"In your underwear"
"Where is your penis"
"I don't have one"
"Why"
"Girls don't have them"
"Does daddy have one?"
"Yes"
"Does female cousin have one?"
*******
I haven't actually used anatomically correct terms with monkey, I don't agree with using them at this age. I'm perfectly comfortable with refering to monkeys penis as his peepee. Unfortunately, I have to give up control about things such as this. ECE are not allowed to use slang. In sense I agree with that ad I wouldn't want someone referring to it as the one eyed snake or something silly. But can't peepee's just be peepee's?

****
I am so going to start getting wacked out search terms.

I hope he doesn't get confused when he takes his underwear off and thinks his penis is still inside them!

The word we always used in our house was "willy". Along with "wee wee hole", "baby hole", and "bum hole" for us girls!

We had hiney for butt and weewee for penis. It's just something my parents taught me (and my brother). I was confused when I got older when kids in my class were talking about this "penis" thing. That was an awkward conversation with my mom! :)

I taught my girls the word for their privates in Thai, not English (that's just what our parents taught us). The other day I did tell my oldest that if she uses the Thai word with her friend, they will have no clue what she is talking about.

But they use the word "penis" for the boy-part, because my mother never told me the Thai word for that.

I don't really have an opinion about whether or not kids should use correct words or not. I don't feel to passionate one way or the other. However, I have some family members that insist that only proper terms should be used for EVERYTHING. I'm good with vagina and penis, but hearing a 4 year old tell me they need to urinate or make a bowel movement leaves me speechless (and a little giggly). I don't need these kinds of details. I mean really, is "I need to use the bathroom" too generic?

Maggie May - its not so much the fun, but the appropriateness that bugs me. Its justs sound wrong for a toddler to being saying Penis

Cath -I never thought of that!! I guess I should say between your legs next time:) bum bum is what we use for bum, not gluteus maximus

Amanda - now that is a funny story. I'm not saying that I would never use the anatomical names, just not at 3

BM - That is an excellent idea, if monkey was home with me until preschool age I totally would've done that.

MicroXX - that just sound weird. Can't a kid just say mommy I gotta go potty, or pee or poopoo.?
